FAQ

Welcome to our FAQ page, where we address common questions and concerns about our CPR training services. Here, you’ll find answers to inquiries ranging from class durations to certification processes, designed to provide clarity and support as you embark on your life-saving journey with Des Moines CPR.

CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. It is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions, artificial respiration and defibrillation (in some cases) to preserve intact brain function until further measures can be taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest.

Learning CPR can help you save the life of someone who is in cardiac/respiratory arrest. It can also help you feel more confident in emergency situations, and it is a valuable skill to have in both personal and professional settings.

CPR certification is typically valid for two years. After that, you will need to take a renewal course to maintain your certification.

No, not unless required by your employer/licensing agency. Everyone can learn how to perform CPR. This would fall under the “Friends & Family” class we offer.

This will be sent to you via e-mail up to 10 days after the class. If you have taken the class and have not received your card please reach out to info@DesMoinesCPR.com

Each class will be catered to the skill level of the individuals in the group. Classes range from 1 hr – 4 hours. Friends & Family class is 1-1.5 hours. Heartsaver can take anywhere from 2.5-4 hours. BLS runs 2.5-4 hours. BLS (Heartcode, blended learning) can take 45 mins – 1.5 hours.

Any activity you are concerned about should be discussed with your healthcare provider first. However, classes can be accommodated to fit your physical limitations. Traditional classes include kneeling down by the manikin to do chest compressions.

Advisor: BLS was developed in 2020 by the American Heart Association for persons with disabilities to advise others on CPR. Check out: https://newsroom.heart.org/news/new-program-developed-for-persons-with-disabilities-to-advise-others-on-cpr

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.

To ensure appropriate student to instructor ratio, classes/sessions will be conducted in maximum of 6 students in one class/session.

Material covered in class will be provided through the American Heart Association lesson plans. If the HR department of you company wants additional information covered, that can be done but is not a reflection of the American Heart Association.

Choking, Bloodorne pathogen, First Aid, CPR, and AED Training can be covered through the American Heart Association material.  Pediatric specific material can be done through the Heartsaver course.

Classes are conducted by the pratice-while-watching learning technique. You will practice on a manikin while watching an instructional video. This will be done for adult/child and infant CPR. Most classes will cover AED application as well as hands only CPR or Breathing with a barrier device/bag valve mask. At the end of class there will be a skills and written exam (open book). Friends & Family classes, as well as blended learning classes do not have written exams. Loose fitted/comfortable clothing is recommended as we will be kneeling on the floor. If you are unable to kneel on the floor please let your instructor know.

Make sure to review the material sent to you by the instructor prior to class. This will include further details regarding materials that may need to be purchased prior to the class date, as well as day of instructions/directions. Further questions may be emailed to info@DesMoinesCPR.com.
